In the wake of Israel’s military campaign against Hamas, there has been a staggering increase of antisemitic rhetoric and even violence against Jewish Americans. Jewish Americans have been subjected to street beatings and even bomb attacks over the past couple of weeks. Most of the perpetrators are sympathetic to the Palestinian cause.
In reaction to these and other attacks, some have spoken out against antisemitism. There was even a brief movement to get social media users to make their profile pictures a blue square. But these have not been as universally accepted as similar social media campaigns such as Black Lives Matter or Stop Asian Hate.
Unfortunately, much of America has become too accepting of antisemitism. Antisemitism needs to be condemned unequivocally, just as anti-black and anti-Asian racism was.
Instead of unequivocal condemnations of antisemitism, some members of the progressive “Squad” decided to condemn both antisemitism and Islamophobia.
Basically, Congresswomen Ayanna Pressley (D-Massachusetts) and Cori Bush (D-Missouri) “all lives mattered” antisemitism. The two women essentially erased what happened to Jewish Americans and lumped it in with other forms of racism. They’re trying to change the subject instead of actually condemning antisemitism.
Unfortunately, it’s not just a far-left Democratic problem. Certified nutjob and Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (Q-Georgia) took time away from ranting about Jewish space lasers to compare vaccination to the Holocaust.
This needs to stop. Stop comparing things that aren’t genocide to the Holocaust. It’s time to stop beating Jews in the street.
We need to condemn and stop antisemitism or we’re not serious about stopping bigotry. We must stand with the Jewish people in their time of peril.
